Topic: What fins are you using?

Middle toe blister after surfing for 2 1/2 hours today in Oside. Considering another fin to alternate with my Vipers.

I prone, no dk.

What fins do you use and why?

Any suggestions on something that would give comparable thrust but maybe more comfort?

If you are all in on longer fins with thrust I've shot water with DaFins and they are similar to yellow/orange dot Vipers but with a little more comfort. For me both are a nightmare to bodyboard with.

WHOAAA that 8ft Surfline report is barely pushing dick high...

I had the the MS Vipers. They were amazing, but the underside with the drainage hole cracked to shit on me. I think they were the early release with a weaker rubber.

Thanks dwa. I've been reading as much as I can find in this forum and on the web, and watching YouTube vids. I need to try some on, but it seems like MS Vipers, Da Fins , and HydroTech 2's are the ones to seriously consider. I wish eBodyboarding wasn't only open M-F.

Sorry 760. There are no Fedex pickups on weekends, and our walk-in business isn't enough to warrant staying open on weekends. Plus, we like some family time then. Hope you can make it on a weekday some time.

No problem. I've had the Hydrotech 2 also. I think they were one of my favorite fins, since I have wide feet. They're wider, so I didn't get much blisters from what I remembered. You really need shoes laces or fin tethers or they'll fly off. I heard da fins aren't that great. Check them out though.

Thanks for the input dwa. I have fin savers even with my OG Vipers. Hopefully this weekend I'll try on some fins. I think Asylum in Oside carries fins, and maybe Surf Ride does too.

DaFin are our best-selling fins and have been for years. They are comfortable on most foot types.

Fins are VERY individual. What's comfortable on one person might not be on another.

I tried on some fins today. I was able to to narrow the field based on what was available. MS Vipers didn't fit well at all. Neither did Custom X. Kicks felt good, but the rounded style is not for me, I prone only.

DaFins fit well in Medium, the foot pocket was soft, but my left foot felt uncomfortable when I stood up. The largest drain hole kind of pinched the bottom of my foot. I do also wish the drain hole design was more aggressive to release sand. Not sure if that's an issue for these fins.

My feet are weird - 7 1/2 shoes size, and wide with high arches. I have a hard time even finding shoes that fit well.

I could go with DaFins (I don't plan to walk around in them obviously), but I'd really like to try Hydro Tech 2's before I make a purchase.

Jay, what kind of feedback have you received on Hydro Tech 2's?

With wide feet, the fins we have luck with are Rad Pig Hooves/Tribe T1s (same fin, different name), Tech Fins (not Tech 2s), and Hydro Fins. Those all have higher-volume foot pockets. I have 4E width feet and wear the T1s.

I'm an E according to Healthy Feet Store Website. It also says I'm size 6 1/2 although I always end up with 7 1/2 or 8 shoes. No wonder this is so damn hard.

I have similar trouble. Wear ~11 shoe. POD 2 L fits great with a ton of thrust, but they're heavy and clunky for DK. I just tried on Dubbs new fins in local shop, L is too small. Rad Pig XLs were promising, but gave me crazy blisters. I alternate between Dafin and clipped Churchhill Maks.

Just want make a shout out to Jay Reale at eBodyboarding.com. I was able to get to his warehouse this afternoon and buy a pair of Tech Fins. Jay was very personable and took the time to work with individually so I could compare several types. While I tried them on he patiently explained the some of the nuances to ensure I selected the best set for me. Sounds easy, but subtle differences can make it hard to choose correctly on your own. I work in an organization where providing amazing service is the norm -- Jay embodies that level of service. I highly recommend buying all of your equipment from eBodyboaring.com. Jay, I wish I'd had more time to chat, but I had to get back for an evening offsite work event.

U.S. Fin Co was easily the most comfortable fin ive never used and still use today. Unfortunately they discontinued them so your SOL.

Used the T1 fins when I was a youngster then graduated to the T2 fins when they came out and continue to swear by the techs, but like most have said, fins are unique to the wearer. Only downside I've experienced with the techs is that they sink like a rock if they come off, so use fin savers or it's only a matter of time.

What is it solider?
Well I mean it's pretty harry in there, that's charlies point.

I finally got to try out the new Hydro Techs. I found them very comfortable. I still have enough room in the foot pocket to wiggle my feet too which I like. The heel isn't quite as snug as my original yellow dot Vipers, but with the fin savers that is no worry.

On a side note, the fin savers from eBodyboarding are great. More secure than my adjustable string fin savers, and easier to get off coming out of the water. Great price too, I ordered another pair as soon as I got home.

Back the Hydro Techs - they seemed to offer less thrust making it harder to catch a wave on a mushy 2-3 foot day. I think I will have to work harder in them. The trade off is they seem like I could wear them longer with virtually no discomfort. In Winter I wear fin socks with the heels cut out. Since they are a tad looser than my Vipers I think they will also work better for fin socks.

Those of you that rotate fins, what's your strategy? Do you wear stiffer fins on small days, and more flexible fins on bigger days when it's easier to catch waves?
