In a world where many of the video's have gone artsy, give me the simplicity of the Hubboards vids.

As far as "new releases" besides the Hubboards DVD that came packaged for free in my kickboard, the last DVDs I got were Boogie Nation & the Tension Box Set.

And if you want to support the old school, I'm helping Tom Boyle to sell his 3 in 1 collector DVD.

1 DVD has Bodyboarders Video Magazine episodes 1, 2, 3.  Otherwise known as Tribal Trials, Winter on the Rock, and The Indonesian Experience.

I would also assume that if you re-released a box set, you could be a sitting duck for copyright infringement due to the music that was used?

Very true....the VBC crew would totally be eat up that box set!

Sammy is one of my favorite people in the world.  Such a positive person!    When I go back to Cali to visit my parents, he's the 1st person I call to go shoot with.   He's a maniac when it comes to shooting.  He'll swim out for a full session, and afterwards, the second that the car gets open, his memory card is inserted in his phone so he an scroll through & froth on the pics that he got.    And as soon as he posts a photo, he swaps out the GoPro battery and runs back into the lineup for me.    He shoots like 5 times a day.   Good times!

Nice, reminds me of the one I had but it was lighter/brighter blue, yellow 3 bubble ion logo.. So sick

I also have one with the 3 bubble logo.  Better template too, but it’s a 41”.   Good for the collection but too small for me to be ride. And I’m down to hunt for some more.

Also, Custom X now makes the Ion Boards.  They huddled up with Eric Pearson’s family and Jay Reale and did a re-launch of it.   It’s called the EB Speed Machine

Bringing up an old post here.

I found a pristine 42" Ion in California, and I brought it back to Hawaii and I've been testing it.   It flies down the line, especially when you pull your outside leg out of the water.   Of course all boards do, but this one really goes.   I'm still trying to get used to the other characteristics of the board. I have other boards that seem to ride more naturally.

There’s a bodyboarder named Wesley Liquorish who has a rental on his property.  It’s close to V-Land.  I can put you in Touch if you want

Yo Nick.  A BZ retro just popped for sale on Craigslist in Irvine.   $90.

Pezman posted an amazing shot from Wyoming on his Facebook

Check this out:

Jay, Custom-X, and the family of Ion's owner (I forgot his name, but R.I.P.) jointly resurrected the Ion-bottomed boards.

I never rode an Ion, but I've always been intrigued.   I heard from people who rode them that they were the fastest boards that they ever rode.

^^ good riding, but I hate the video.

1) Way too much slow motion
2)  Too many shots that are zoomed in too tight.  Should be able to see above the roof of the wave.

The VBC has really opened up the eyes of board companies.   Throwback functional board designs are coming back.   If you like the way that the old board ride, you'll have more options soon.

Hey Nick, are you following the froth in the VBC?   It will result in more companies jumping back into the realm of wide nose prone boards.  Hang tight, it will happen...

ahhhh bummers.  It looked nice from the top anyways.

I'll keep a lookout.

No.6 has a similar board called The Brigadier.   I had a 43.25" version but that was too long so I sold it.  But like you said, different deck materials than the BZ retro though, and I'm not sure how comparable it rides.

Old wide prone boards rule!

I'm pretty excited about this one:

Oh cool, you bought the one that was light blue with yellow rails???   Ad said "excellent undamaged condition"

If so, then Stoked that it went to you.  I was wondering if it would show up on the VBC.

I saw one on Craigslist OC a few weeks ago for $60.  I was chatting with the seller but passed on it.  They do surface from time to time.  What is your radius of grab-ability?

They should write it into the rule book that there will be an official .5 deduction for a claim on a wave that doesn't score at least a 9.0.

The Vintage Bodyboard Collectors group has gone viral.  It's an addicting place to hang out, and has prompted me to ramp up my acquisition of classic boards :)

Ebodyboarding messageboard back in the early to mid 2000s was epic.   But yeah, as Jay said, social media has taken over.

That would be a great find!

In the meantime, come on over to the Vintage Bodyboard Collectors group on Facebook and post your stash.   It's been going nuts in that group!

Yes I'm glad.   It was a great contest.

I'm stoked that everyone got good waves.  The DK & Women sure scored on day 2, and nice to see the swell & wind cooperate this past Monday.

No pain.  I got parking spots quite easily, and had plenty of room to roam for camera angles.

You probably whined on Facebook about the lack of a webcast, didn't you?

I was there all 3 days, and I'm still somewhat surprised at the lack of spectators on the beach.  I've seen the beach be more crowded on a non-contest day.   I would think that since there isn't a webcast, more people would head up to watch it in person?    For some reason, that's not the case.   10 years ago, the beach was more crowded.    I wonder if this has anything to do with the move to late February/March?    Like tourists who come to Hawaii in January are pre-programmed to head to Pipe to watch a contest.

Makes it easier for us to park & get better camera angles, but still would be cool for the competitors to have more spectators.

Or... maybe it's that nobody gives a flying fuck about the bodyboarding contest except bodyboarders?

The beach looked like a goddam ghost town.

People used to give a flying fuck.    Check the photos of Jeff Hubbard being carried up the beach in 2007.

The beach was a ghost town.  It was a ghost town last year too.

Actually I'm going to have a whinge. Alex, Mike and the APB and everyone else that made the comp happen did the best they had with limited resources.
The comp happened. It was online to view, even if there was a few technical glitches but it was still watchable, and the scores were updated.

All the negative whinging on social media. People expecting something for free.. Saw people telling the APB on social media that they should be embarrassed that they were sponsored by Kellogg's. Even one of the pro bodyboarders said it. We struggle for sponsors and when we do get one that’s the crap we have to deal with.
Goes back to Nike pulling their offer off the table. Bodyboarding hates itself. Full of people that want to tear it down while a few hard working  people do their best to make things happen.
We should we patting them on the back and congratulating them for actually making it happen. Bodyboarding doesn’t have the budget of surfing or snowboarding yet people wont quit and still put on the best comps they can on the resources. Celebrate that. Own that shit. Don’t be negative!

Whiners like to whine.   And the sport of bodyboarding attracts a certain contingent of whiny people who think they're entitled to everything.    They're probably the ones who assessed other sports & realized they had no chance to be sponsored, like in Skating, surfing, snowboarding, etc, so they jumped in on the bodyboarding world where they can fast-track themselves to hookups & bragging rights.

Most bodyboarders aren't like this, but enough of them are to the point that it gets annoying for us positive people to have to look at.

Sick edit!   One of the best I've seen for contest highlights.    And yes great music choice.....
